Go buy a wrench and work on your bike

plus: the Isle of Manhattan ride, gas in the city, and Revzilla closing

🧠 Need to know this week…

  1. 🤔🏁 Here’s a quick briefer on the history of MotoGP. Brush up before racing starts back up again in March (Test starting next month!)

  2. 🏍️ 🎆 More video from the Isle of Manhattan 2024 ride

  3. 🫢⛽️ The most expensive gas station in the city. Seriously. Stay tf out.

  4. ⚠️ Bosch wants traction control on all motorcycles: “we can cut accidents by 30%

  5. 🧥 SA1NT is running a huge 30% off sale on their armored winter jacket. I use mine daily and love the damn thing. Use code NYCMOTO20 to get 20% off on everything else

  6. 🏍️ ❄️ Mistakes made on winterizing your bike

  7. ⛰️ Take a ride on the train to Beacon

  8. 🥹 I know I’m a little late to the closing party here, but Revzilla has shuttered their doors in Brooklyn; no surprise really: rent is expensive, the niche is small, and we all just buy online anyway.

Stop staring at the bike in the garage; go buy a wrench 🔧

Listen, I’m no mechanic. And worse, I feel like I can do anything after watching a youtube video.

Still, I’ve done a lot and have had very few catastrophes. Top on the catastrophe list is probably not properly bleeding the clutch line. That one was kinda scary.

So as your bike sits in the garage over the next few months, go buy a wrench. Install new levers, change your clutch/brake reservoirs, install a new headlight, throw out your damn license plate bracket and install a tail tidy, change your fuel filler cap, install new rear sets, change out that cheap plastic for ridiculously expensive carbon pieces. Go nuts. But most of all, do it all while learning about your bike!

Don’t get me wrong though, make sure you’re bleeding your brake/clutch lines properly, torque and apply loctite to those bolts, keep grease away from your rotors/pads/tires, clean/lube your chain, change your oil as well. Wrenching on your bike is fun but keep in mind that your ass is the one in the seat so do it right. Ask a friend to help. Hopefully, they’ve watched more Youtube videos than you have.

Wanna learn more? Check out local workshops from MOTOGRRL in Brooklyn.

And when you’re lost, call up Mark at Brooklyn Moto or Webb at Ducati NYC. If you’re further upstate, check out HVMC and pray that their service department isn’t backed up 2 months (I kid; Shawn, Teddy, and Steve are the best). Or call Gold Coast on Long Island.

🥇 The NYC MOTO Riders Club

The Riders Club has been mostly flying under the radar but it’s time to open the cage.

Here’s what being a member of The Riders Club means:

🌟 You’re supporting the only newsletter for riders in NYC. I work hard as hell bringing you this content and hunt down brands, routes, gear, and stories I know you’ll love. It’s a full time job and subscribers to the NYC MOTO Riders Club make it possible.

🔗 All of the Google Maps links from our ride guides. Simply click on the links and follow the same turn-by-turn directions I did. I include .GPX links as well.

🛣️ A new route every week. There is an email blast that goes out on Thursdays to only those that subscribe to the Riders Club. It features one new spectacular route every week.

🤑 Exclusive discount codes to the 🔥 hottest gear. Some of the discounts are higher value than the free subscribers and you’ll also see some exclusive gear/brands entirely.

Give it a shot with a 7 day free trial:

Or if you’re the non-committal type, buy me a cup of ☕️ coffee. Honestly though, I’d probably just spend it on a pair of gloves.
