Random list of riding group etiquette

For sure going to draw some hate on some of thisā€¦

In no particular order:

  1. Get on comms if youā€™re riding with a new group. I used to preach to be on comms all the time but if youā€™re riding with a group youā€™re used to, itā€™s a bit less necessary. Just know to spot each otherā€™s tells and have a plan. Go buy a Cardo for every one of your helmets. Use my code NYCMOTO23 for 20% off.

  2. The rubber banding effect is real and you should know what it is. Say youā€™re on the highway and the guy on the V4 in front of you twists the throttle. Youā€™ve now got a good amount of distance between you and him and youā€™re slowing down the guys behind you. Cranking the throttle to catch up to him would mean having to go even faster than he is which reduces reaction/braking distance and puts everyone else behind you at risk. Either ramp up the throttle slowly and take longer to catch up or just let the guys behind you pass.

  3. Fuel the fuck up before you show up to a group ride. I never do but Iā€™m pretty well known/hated for my fuel issues. Donā€™t be like me.

  4. Know where youā€™re going and plug it in to your gps in case you get separated. Happens. On. Every. Single. Ride.

  5. If youā€™re riding with new people and itā€™s a sizable group (think 8+), insist on a pre-ride meeting. Discuss shit like fuel stops (the thirstiest tank generally sets the cadence), speeds (how fast are you going on highways?), comms requirements, and peopleā€™s abilities.

  6. Speaking of do as I say and not as I do, check your damn bike before you go out. That tire you know needs to be replaced ā€œsoonā€ is not gonna last that 250 mile ride youā€™ve got planned. The last bit of wear goes fast. Ask me how I know.

Update on the Garage/Lounge

Iā€™m still working on this but itā€™s become a bit more of a difficult rollout than initially expected. Shocking, right?

I appreciate the incredible support you have all showed so far and I promise to provide updates as I get them. The current roadblock is finding a suitable space that doesnā€™t take an immense investment. The space we were looking at has some heavy requirements attached to it and Iā€™m just not sure itā€™s going to be a great space for what Iā€™d like to accomplish (think Bike Shed Moto in NYC)

In the meantime, please go ahead and fill out this form below to get on the waiting list. It helps me understand demand and make sure Iā€™ve got the right spot when weā€™re ready to throw the doors open.

And hereā€™s another one with more info:

šŸ„‡ The NYC MOTO Riders Club

The Riders Club has been mostly flying under the radar but itā€™s time to open the cage.

Hereā€™s what being a member of The Riders Club means:

šŸŒŸ Youā€™re supporting the only newsletter for riders in NYC. I work hard as hell bringing you this content and hunt down brands, routes, gear, and stories I know youā€™ll love. Itā€™s a full time job and subscribers to the NYC MOTO Riders Club make it possible.

šŸ”— All of the Google Maps links & .GPX from our ride guides. Simply click on the links and follow the same turn-by-turn directions I did. I include .GPX links as well.

šŸ›£ļø A new route every week. There is an email blast that goes out on Thursdays to only those that subscribe to the Riders Club. It features one new spectacular route every week.

šŸ¤‘ Exclusive discount codes to the šŸ”„ hottest gear. Some of the discounts are higher value than the free subscribers and youā€™ll also see some exclusive gear/brands entirely.

Give it a shot with a 7 day free trial:

Or if youā€™re the non-committal type, buy me a cup of ā˜•ļø coffee. Honestly though, Iā€™d probably just spend it on a pair of gloves.

šŸŒŸ Feature your product or service in the newsletter

NYC MOTO is the only motorcycle newsletter for the NYC/NJ/PA tri-state area. We carefully review sponsorship opportunities to make sure your product/service aligns with and adds value to our readers.
