I donā€™t know why I rideā€¦

Deep down, something inside me tells me I shouldnā€™t

ā€¦ but I just donā€™t know how to listen.

I know this is something we all rarely talk about and I get it; no one wants to have that conversation before a ride. Or during. Or after. Never, really. Itā€™s OK.

The idea here isnā€™t to scare anyone away from riding or guilt riders into ā€œslowing downā€. Iā€™m just going to put my thoughts down and maybe it will help someone talk this through in their own heads. If it starts up a convo between you and your friends, great. Feel free to disagree too.

Itā€™s been a tough year. Most of us have been impacted by tragedy in one way or another and for fear of dredging up wounds that are still open, Iā€™ll just leave it at that. All that I will say is for those of you reading this from a hospital bed or otherwise in recovery, your sacrifices mean something and we all collectively wish you the best.

And yet, even with all that in my head, I still throw a leg over and run up and down the damn state. Thereā€™s this pull and I havenā€™t been able to justify it in any logical or sane way. Thereā€™s a feeling I get on great roads (and even running through the city) that just makes me happy. Maybe itā€™s the 100% definition of control for control freaks. Itā€™s not freedom or any of that other cliche shit riders talk about. Iā€™m not escaping from anything either.

Iā€™m not here to tell anyone to stop. Hell, Iā€™m not stopping. But I am saying that maybe, just maybe, itā€™s worth pausing to check in with yourself. Why do you ride? Is it an escape? A rush? A connection? Or maybe something else entirely?

For me, I have no idea. I think the closest more sensible definition is thrill, control, and friendship. Riding motorcycles has single handedly been responsible for new friendships, new business opportunities, seeing more of New York, this newsletter, and so much more. I owe so much to riding and maybe at some point, it will ask for payment.

Itā€™s OK if the answer is complicated. Riding is complicated. So, letā€™s take care of ourselves and each other. Stay safe, stay alert, and maybe take that extra second before your next ride to make sure youā€™re riding for the right reasonsā€”whatever those may be for you. Oh, and gear the fuck up.

See ya on the road.

šŸ˜‡ MotoSweeper is AAA for motorcycles

Iā€™m no stranger to being stranded on the side of the fucking road. My best friend and I have launched MotoSweeper, a roadside assistance membership for riders. Weā€™ve got a few packages starting at $89.

Why us? Between the two of us, weā€™ve got half a century (ffs weā€™re old) of professional experience launching companies, advertising, servicing, and logistics. Weā€™re the combination of break shit and launch and that pain in the ass guy in the room that thinks too far ahead. Put together, weā€™ve got a balance and MotoSweeper can only succeed if that balance is maintained.

šŸ„‡ The NYC MOTO Riders Club

For a limited time, SA1NT has graciously donated $10 gift cards for the next 20 members to sign up.

Hereā€™s what being a member of The Riders Club means:

šŸŒŸ Youā€™re supporting the only newsletter for riders in NYC. I work hard as hell bringing you this content and hunt down brands, routes, gear, and stories I know youā€™ll love. Itā€™s a full time job and subscribers to the NYC MOTO Riders Club make it possible.

šŸ”— All of the Google Maps links & .GPX from our ride guides. Simply click on the links and follow the same turn-by-turn directions I did. I include .GPX links as well.

šŸ›£ļø A new route every week. There is an email blast that goes out on Thursdays to only those that subscribe to the Riders Club. It features one new spectacular route every week.

šŸ¤‘ Exclusive discount codes to the šŸ”„ hottest gear. Some of the discounts are higher value than the free subscribers and youā€™ll also see some exclusive gear/brands entirely.

Give it a shot with a 7 day free trial:

Weā€™ll shoot you the SA1NT gift card after your trialā€™s done.

Or if youā€™re the non-committal type, buy me a cup of ā˜•ļø coffee. Honestly though, Iā€™d probably just spend it on a pair of gloves.

šŸ™ Join the NYC MOTO Free Facebook Group

Go ahead and hit up the NYC MOTO Community to keep the convo going.

Until next time!
