Riding season...
& a CARFAX for bikes?
🧠 Need to know this week…
CARFAX for bikes? Where the hell was this when I bought my used Monster 1200s?
⚠️ Missed your chance to get on the NYC MOTO Garage & Lounge opening list? The sign-up sheet is still open.
🎧️ 🪖 The Sena 60S/R is coming
🔋 It’s no secret that I’ve got nothing against electric bikes but man, their recalls could be really fucking serious
🔋 🐏 On a lighter side of electric, Damon is getting closer and closer to bringing their electric dreams to market
🦑 Woah, these superbike quad conversions from Exeet (really?) are legit
💙 OnlyFans Racing Warhorse Ducati Team Unveiled At Mount Airy Casino. I was there.
🛠️ Long Island Kawasaki-Yamaha is on the hunt for experienced repair techs. Give them a call and ask for Mike; tell them you read about it from NYC MOTO and he’ll know you’re legit.
🎒 🦺 Alpinestars takes it to the trails with their just announced Tech-Air Off-Road airbag system
Yeah, the season’s basically started but use your damn head 😶🌫️
I ride year round but just like you, I’d prefer actual pleasurable rides upstate than point a to point b in the city. One’s far more fun than the other.
The weather has been absolutely fantastic over the past week or so and I’ve taken every damn opportunity to get out and ride.
But I’ve already come across some nasty shit out there that is a sober reminder of what it’s like to ride this time of year and as I am the helpful type, I’ll share with you as well:
You think you and your rider friends are the only ones that are itching to get out? So is everyone else. Everyone and their damn riding group are dusting their gixxers off and hitting the same roads.
Cops are out there too and they’re hungry. Watch the Palisades especially. They love their 8-12 ticket stops and come out of fucking nowhere. What’s your best cop story?
Stay away from the smaller country roads until later on in the season. I had a run-in on one just south of Phoenicia and it wasn’t pretty. Tons of gravel on what is otherwise a beautiful road.
The mornings are still cold and the nights are even colder. A 45 degree morning feels doable but keep in mind that it was likely closer to freezing overnight and roads take time to warm up. I’m not saying stay home but if you do go out, stay away from those track leans until later in the day after your tires and the road has warmed up.
Cars are still in winter mode. They’re not used to seeing bikes out there yet. You should always stay vigilant but even more so when cars are expecting you even less.
Wind chill is a thing. Keep that in mind if you’re planning on putting up some highway mileage on your naked bike.
Upstate is usually around 10 degrees colder than the city. Dress right and plan to be upstate more mid-day than morning. Just start later.
Layer up to layer down. Put on an extra layer in the morning and then strip it as the day goes. Tuck it in your rear jacket pocket or shove it in your (or your friend’s) luggage.
The NYC MOTO Garage & Lounge is happening
I’ve shared this on Instagram and have had an insane response. Love you guys and it’s clear this is something the city needs.
We’ll do two types of membership:
Social with bike storage. This will likely be priced at around $300 /month. I’ve got 35 commitments already so we’ve got around 15 spots left.
Social membership. I’ll probably roll this out a bit later this season and do this membership at around $50 /month. It will include access to the lounge facilities. Best work-from-home setup in the city.
Thanks to the massive response, I’m happy to report that the project is happening and we’ve got a few spots left. Again, NYC MOTO Newsletter Premium Members will get shoved to the front of the line.
Here’s the intro post on IG:
And here’s another one with more info:
🥇 The NYC MOTO Riders Club
The Riders Club has been mostly flying under the radar but it’s time to open the cage.
Here’s what being a member of The Riders Club means:
🌟 You’re supporting the only newsletter for riders in NYC. I work hard as hell bringing you this content and hunt down brands, routes, gear, and stories I know you’ll love. It’s a full time job and subscribers to the NYC MOTO Riders Club make it possible.
🔗 All of the Google Maps links from our ride guides. Simply click on the links and follow the same turn-by-turn directions I did. I include .GPX links as well.
🛣️ A new route every week. There is an email blast that goes out on Thursdays to only those that subscribe to the Riders Club. It features one new spectacular route every week.
🤑 Exclusive discount codes to the 🔥 hottest gear. Some of the discounts are higher value than the free subscribers and you’ll also see some exclusive gear/brands entirely.
Give it a shot with a 7 day free trial:
Or if you’re the non-committal type, buy me a cup of ☕️ coffee. Honestly though, I’d probably just spend it on a pair of gloves.
