Use ear plugs

& an update on the garage/lounge

🧠 Need to know this week…

  1. ⚠️ The NYC MOTO Garage & Lounge is slated for opening day July/August. Get on the list.

  2. 🤡 Quick PSA from a 1%’er on joining bike clubs

  3. 🛞 🛞 Two Wheel Tuesday is at 18th Ward this week. Show up but don’t revbomb!

  4. 🤑 It’s official now; KTM is now the owner of MV Agusta.

  5. 🏍️ 🍳 Bikes & Breakfast is at Bogota this Sunday. Love that location & cafe. Far less packed than 9W.

  6. ❓️Check out this Facebook Group for status on Storm King area roads.

  7. 🪖 The Schuberth C5 Carbon modular helmet is out and it’s $1,500

  8. CARFAX for bikes? Where the hell was this when I bought my used Monster 1200s?

  9. 🔋 Here’s a quick look at the 2024 Livewire S2 Mulholland. Honestly, having an electric bike for just city riding could be great.

Making the case for ear plugs… again 👂️

I don’t wear ear plugs. This is going to be one of those “do as I say and not as I do” kind of things.

The nutshell here is that ear plugs save your hearing and reduce fatigue, especially on longer rides. The latter you’ll feel immediately (no brain fog & headaches after long rides) and the former will have you thanking yourself as you get older.

Ear plugs really do make a difference and might make you a better rider. Putting them on actually helped me focus by cancelling out a lot of the drone of the engine and wind noise. You can eat a lot more highway miles without getting as tired. Everything important still gets through; the vibrations, the actual sound of the motor, car horns, city sounds, etc.

I don’t wear them because I’m an idiot. I’ve tried several ear plugs on and have gotten 2 of them stuck in my ears. That sucked a lot so I kind of swore ear plugs off entirely. The best plugs I’ve found are the cheap foam throw-away plugs and that’s what I’ll try again this year.

Also, Fortnine produced ▶️ a great video years ago comparing ear plugs and foamies won. So there’s that. But then there is this nightmare pic from one of the earplugs he recommended so I dunno:

Speaking of ear protection, maybe it’s too late for you…

This stuff has been recommended to me to actually help with restoring hearing loss. They’re also today’s newsletter sponsor so double-wammy. Here’s what they’ve got to say:

Cortexi has provided amazing hearing support for men and women in their 30s, 40, 50s and even 70s. Because it was engineered based on teachings of modern science, Cortexi formula is very gentle yet very powerful at the same time using pure plant ingredients and natural minerals. And you can rest assured knowing it's manufactured in the United States.

The NYC MOTO Garage & Lounge is happening

We’ve got 103 people signed up for parking & social memberships. It’s taking a bit longer than expected so we will not have the garage open for the initial April/May timeline unfortunately. Pissed that we’re going to miss out on part of the season but it is what it is.

I’m looking to finalize the details by end of this month which pushes out opening to June/July

We’ll do two types of membership:

  1. Social with bike storage. This will likely be priced at around $300 /month. I’ve got 42 commitments already for parking and have about 10 spots left.

  2. Social membership. I’ll probably roll this out a bit later this season and do this membership at $30 - $50 /month. It will include access to the lounge facilities. Best work-from-home & MotoGP watch party setup in the city.

Thanks to the massive response, I’m happy to report that the project is happening and we’ve got a few spots left. Again, NYC MOTO Newsletter Premium Members will get shoved to the front of the line.

Here’s the intro post on IG:

And here’s another one with more info:

🥇 The NYC MOTO Riders Club

The Riders Club has been mostly flying under the radar but it’s time to open the cage.

Here’s what being a member of The Riders Club means:

🌟 You’re supporting the only newsletter for riders in NYC. I work hard as hell bringing you this content and hunt down brands, routes, gear, and stories I know you’ll love. It’s a full time job and subscribers to the NYC MOTO Riders Club make it possible.

🔗 All of the Google Maps links from our ride guides. Simply click on the links and follow the same turn-by-turn directions I did. I include .GPX links as well.

🛣️ A new route every week. There is an email blast that goes out on Thursdays to only those that subscribe to the Riders Club. It features one new spectacular route every week.

🤑 Exclusive discount codes to the 🔥 hottest gear. Some of the discounts are higher value than the free subscribers and you’ll also see some exclusive gear/brands entirely.

Give it a shot with a 7 day free trial:

Or if you’re the non-committal type, buy me a cup of ☕️ coffee. Honestly though, I’d probably just spend it on a pair of gloves.
