Kawasaki's coloring book, winterization, and all advice is bad advice

plus... a sweet route you haven't done yet.

Events 📆 on deck in NYC…

  1. 🏕️ 🔥 Basecamp Brooklyn is hosting their Autumn Wilderness Camp. Join them for a fireside feast in the Pennsylvania Wilds October 13-15

  2. Pre-register for the October 15th Inaugural Hudson Valley Motorcycle Ride benefiting the Hudson Valley 🐶 😺 Animal Rescue & Sanctuary

  3. 🏁 For track experts, NJMP introduced a new track format that is essentially session-less. Stay on the track as long as you want for 8 hours on October 18.

Need to 🧠 know this week…

👉️ Kawasaki released a coloring book. 🖍️ Yep. Looks like all that time saved not focusing on MotoGP is paying off dividends.

👉️ 🤑 Seriously impressive. Buell amassed $120M in pre-orders for their Super Cruiser 1190

👉️ I genuinely love what Cardo is doing with its software to help bridge (see what I did there?) the mesh gap between their products and Sena. They’ve just now released full mesh compatibility with their competitor’s product. Update your Cardo firmware and peep the tutorial here. Oh and get 20% off your unit here 👈️ Use code: NYCMOTO23

👉️ Take three minutes to watch a beautiful Italian wax poetic about the Dainese leather suit building process ▶️ .

👉️ What’re you doing with your bike over the winter? ❄️ Let us know.

Great advice means nothing if it doesn’t apply to you 💡

  1. Loud pipes save lives

  2. Keep your levers covered

  3. Stay in 1st gear at red lights

  4. Splitting/filtering is dangerous

  5. Farting on a bike after Taco Bell can lead to disaster

Ugh. The amount of arguments I’ve seen on all of the above (except maybe #5; it’s just a rule and I’ll fight anyone to the death on following it) and there are just as many people on both sides of the aisle.

The reality is that all of these arguments are completely futile. Every argument - well, almost every argument - is correct but keep their use case in mind.

Staying in first gear makes a ton of sense if you’re hitting 5 traffic lights on a 2 hour ride. I can’t go 30 minutes in the city without hitting 20 traffic lights. You better believe that I’m going into neutral every chance I get.

I’ve recently posed the ridiculous loud pipes saves lives question to our FB Group and you guys have come out in droves. People are either for it or against and find it very difficult to find an in-between. It’s not wrong or right folks; we can do better.

All of the advice you give and receive is filtered. That filter is incredibly personal and in all cases, circumstantial. Keep that in mind that as you receive advice, that person’s opinion is based on their own circumstances, experiences, and opinion. “Your mileage may vary” has some real meaning here.

And conversely, keep the same in mind when offering advice. Be sure to state your circumstances and understand that your environment and riding style may not necessarily apply to whoever you’re preaching to.

Web (Ducati New York Master Technician) speaks the truth on winterization for bikes…

I don't winterize my bike as I ride it year-round but most of the riders I know garage their bikes through the winter months. Some do it right but most don't.

Whether you’re traveling or garaging your bike through the cold, give Ducati NYC a call. They’ve got a massive storage facility in Scranton, PA and have been winterizing and storing bikes for ages. Good time to get your DESMO service and other upgrades/repairs done during that time as well.

Pricing is super reasonable so give them a shout. They’re also running a promo offering 20% off any service done while the bike’s in storage which is a fantastic deal; I’m not aware of any other time during the year they run this.

👉️ More upstate twists, hairpins, and food

A couple of buddies and I did this route over the weekend and can’t wait to go back.

Watch for the leaves on the ground and residual rain water after heavy rains on the tight tracks. Oh, and keep an eye out for the hairpins; they sneak up fast.

Aside from almost running out of gas (26 miles into the fuel light!), a bald tire (not mine this time), this was a great Sunday out.

⛰️ Check out some of these other routes I’ve put together

Hit me up if you guys prefer one over the other and we can put together a ride out this Fall.
